Most children in restavek are living difficult lives - isolated from their family and friends and often neglected or abused. Some children are in extreme and even dangerous situations of physical and sexual abuse. Our Child Advocates are always advocating for children, working with host parents, school professionals and the children themselves to make sure that the child has the most opportunity for freedom and hope in their life.
While we believe that many host parents are open and able to change, there are some cases where the abuse is extreme and removing the child from the home is the best choice. In order to be able to have a place for those children we have opened a transitional home to help children heal and recover while we look for a healthier and permanent family situation.
We are so happy to report that we have opened the transitional home and currently have several girls living there under the care of several house mothers. The team in Haiti reports that the girls are adjusting well and that there are many games of hide and seek in the house after school.
In addition to living in a safe home, these girls are attending an excellent school nearby where our school partner is helping them each reach their academic potential.
