Grant from US State Department

We were awarded a grant from the US State Department's Trafficking in Persons Office to help rebuild our Child Advocacy Program after the earthquake. We are honored by their support and encouraged to be able to help additional children in restavek find freedom.

Our first priority is always the children

Our Child Advocacy program is the heart of our organization - their freedom is our first priority.

On January 12, 2010 we had 394 children in our Child Advocacy program. Our Child Advocates visit with these kids regularly, they get to know their likes and dislikes, their difficulties, their strengths and their dreams. We knew their names and their faces. We knew their stories. We lost 111 children in the earthquake: 7 died when one of our partner schools collapsed, 50 moved and there are 54 that try as we might, we cannot find any details surrounding their whereabouts.

This year we have devoted hours to talking with school directors, neighbors, other kids to see if we could find these children. We are so thrilled to report that we have connected with 283 children. They are in school this year and we rejoice to see be seeing their faces again on a regular basis.

Over the past several months we have met new children and forged new school partnerships so at the date of this writing we have 426 children in our program and are partnering with 48 schools in Port-au-Prince.
